Euro Replaced Currencies

Euro Replaced Currencies
The euro replaced the dollar as the currency of their choice?

I read an article in The Economist, in which the euro has surpassed the dollar as reference currency for international bond market. I also read in the NY section to circumvent, if OPEC continues with euros instead of dollars, and if China sells even a fraction of the U.S. - Trillian dollars of U.S. debt, the economy of the United States come collapse. I do not think it can be almost as bad, but I'm sure if these things occur, the result would be a disaster for the U.S. consumer. I do not know much about the economy and the Intl If you know something, please, I mean your data entry: I thank you in advance.

This is not a big deal that certain transactions and international prices are denominated in another currency besides U.S. dollars for the euro. It does not hurt or help the United States. The more interesting question is what would happen if China tried to sell their dollars to 1.2 trillion U.S. dollars of securities the U.S. government has accumulated. Remember that China is undervaluing its currency by this gathering, so it can sell to buy more in the United States they are in the United States. To keep the Chinese currency undervalued, the government continue to use the sale of their own currency (yuan) and buying dollars for the Buy American government. One wonders why the government China intends to do. "Chinese consumers have so long shirts, shoes, tables, television, wishing sell the surplus in the U.S. Price? As consumers in the United States, I can only thank them for their generosity. At the end of all that the Chinese can do is use their accumulated a considerable amount of securities of the United States, American products to buy. If they try sell them for yuan, the price of the Yuan rise and U.S. exports to China increasing and reducing Chinese exports to the United States. If you sell bonds and buy stocks rather than on the NYSE or property of roots in Los Angeles, nothing has really changed. Do not worry about the prophets of doom, laughs, what do the Chinese. Just enjoy the low prices of Chinese goods at Wal-Mart and thank the workers poor who worked in a factory in China for its generosity.

The euro is the only major currency to be created in the 20th century and now stands on the brink of becoming one of the world's two reserve currencies in the 21st century. The Euro's use and development shape the entire agenda for ever-closer union in Europe and for transatlantic relations. As the currency bearing the brunt of the dollar's decline from its overvaluation of the late 1990s, the Euro's value and management will be critical to the successful adjustment of international imbalances. And as a long-run competitor and collaborator with the dollar, the euro creates the potential for a bipolar international monetary system, offering unprecedented challenges and opportunities to economic policymakers. This important new book explores the Euro's international role, its record thus far, and its future.

"The euro has quickly become a world currency, and this excellent work explains how this came about. It does the job, not only by looking at the economic factors involved, but also at political, legal, social, and cultural factors—all in a very creative and readable manner." —Richard Swedberg, Cornell University "If the nineteenth and twentieth centuries brought a dramatic nationalization of government-backed currencies across the world, does the euro's introduction in 2002 write finis to the era of nationalism? Here, superbly informed observers of European politics, economy, and social life debate that question from multiple perspectives, not only documenting the depth of the euro's challenge, but also mapping alternative futures for Europe. An illuminating intervention in a vital conversation." —Viviana A. Zelizer, Lloyd Cotsen '50 Professor of Sociology, Princeton University "This is one of the most interesting and original books in the burgeoning field of EU studies to have emerged in recent years. Its emphasis on the likely social and cultural—not just political and economic—impact of the euro at the national, subnational, and supranational levels is timely and refreshing. Tighly edited, this book should be essential reading for professional and amateur EU-watchers alike." —Desmond Dinan, Jean Monnet Professor of Public Policy, George Mason University "I know of no other books on the academic market that deal with the impact of the Euro on the political, economic, and social fabric of Europe. This volume is currently one-of-a-kind." —Jeffrey Anderson, Georgetown University The Year of the Euro examines the wide-ranging importance of Europe's new single currency beyond its impact on financial markets and the economy itself. On January 1, 2002, when the new currency began to circulate in the twelve participating member states of the European Union, the long move toward a supranational European framework for trade and institutions finally entered the fabric of daily life for hundreds of millions of citizens. The contributing authors to this highly readable and interdisciplinary volume offer a variety of perspectives on this extraordinary episode in currency change and European convergence. The book's essays offer the assessments of leading scholars of European affairs—from the fields of history, political science, sociology, and law—as to whether the new common currency will reshape the continent's cultures, societies and political systems and, if so, in what ways. The discussions and debates found in these pages will inform those, within and outside academia, who are interested in the future of Europe and in the meaning of national currencies. The volume is also suitable for classroom use in courses on the European Union, cultural and economic sociology, comparative politics, and contemporary Europe.

Currencies and Crises

Currencies and Crises brings together Paul Krugman's work on international monetary economics from the late 1970s to the present, in an effort to make sense of a turbulent period that, in Krugman's words, involved one surprise after another, most of them unpleasant. The eleven essays cover such key areas as the role of exchange rates in balance-of-payments adjustment policy, the role of speculation in the functioning of exchange-rate regimes, third world debt, and the construction of an international monetary system.
